St. John the Baptist Cathedral Church

The Catholic Cathedral is very close to the Orthodox Church. It is located in the Catholic quarter of Fira and distinguishes for its vibrant colors.This cathedral of Santorini is in great contrast to many of its Byzantine neighbors. The peach exterior and its size make it stand out from afar. There is also a wonderfully ornate clock tower standing proudly overlooking all over the city. The interior is beautifully decorated with large religious portraits framed with pillars.
The dome from the interior is lilac blue and other parts are colored orange and cream. The Cathedral is dedicated to Saint John, the Baptist. The church was greatly damaged by the earthquake in 1956 but it was rebuilt back in 1975.
The St. John the Baptist Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in Santorini, Greece and serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santorini which was created in 1204.
